Creating space for family life

For our clients, moving was never the answer. They loved their Salisbury neighbourhood, enjoyed being close to family and could see the potential in the bungalow they already called home. What they needed was more space to support family life as it continued to grow.

Like many older conservatories, the existing lean to had reached the end of its life. It was cold during the winter, uncomfortably warm in the summer and no longer provided the practical living space the family needed. Rather than replacing it with another conservatory, the vision was to create a seamless extension that felt as though it had always belonged.

Working closely with the architect's design, the rear of the bungalow was completely transformed. Structural alterations allowed the original rear wall to be removed, creating a generous open plan living space centred around a new kitchen. Large bi fold doors and carefully positioned glazing flood the extension with natural light while creating a strong connection to the garden, making it the perfect setting for everyday family life.

One of the most satisfying aspects of the project was seeing how naturally the extension blended with the original bungalow. The roofline continues effortlessly across the new space, giving the impression that it has always formed part of the home rather than being a later addition.

Although bungalows were rarely designed with growing families in mind, this transformation proves how thoughtfully considered design can completely change the way a home is lived in. What was once a modest bungalow has become a bright, welcoming family home where cooking, dining, working, relaxing and spending time together all happen within one beautifully connected space.
