Some of the most successful transformations don't involve adding more space, but making better use of the space that's already there. For this retired couple, the goal was simple: create a stronger connection with the beautiful garden they had lovingly cultivated and enjoyed throughout the seasons.

Although the bungalow had been extended previously, the living space never truly embraced the view beyond. A single offset window created an unbalanced appearance and limited the connection with the beautifully landscaped garden.

Inspired by a design magazine, the clients imagined a more contemporary solution that would frame the garden as part of the living space. Rather than simply enlarging the existing opening, the original window was reduced to accommodate elegant French doors, while a completely new opening of exactly the same proportions was created alongside it to house a bespoke aluminium picture window. The result is a perfectly balanced design that feels as though it was always intended to be part of the original bungalow.

Finished in a timeless silver grey, inside and out, the contemporary aluminium glazing has transformed both the appearance of the property and the way the living space is experienced. The large picture window frames the garden beautifully throughout the changing seasons, while the French doors provide effortless access outdoors. Discreet remote controlled blinds complete the space, maintaining clean lines and allowing the garden to remain the focal point.

The transformation continued with matching aluminium front and rear doors, bringing additional natural light into the hallway and creating a consistent design throughout the property. A return visit completed the project with new bedroom windows and carefully selected cement cladding, giving the bungalow a refreshed exterior that complements its contemporary appearance.

Today, the living space feels brighter, calmer and beautifully connected to the garden. The bespoke picture window has become the defining feature of the home, framing the changing seasons and allowing the landscape beyond to become part of everyday life.
