A Home Reimagined
Enford, Wiltshire
The character of an older home is often what makes it special, but the way it was originally arranged does not always suit the way we live today.
For our clients, the transformation was about creating a more open and connected home while retaining the warmth and character that made the property feel so established.
Significant structural alterations opened up the ground floor, creating a generous kitchen, dining and living space with a wonderful connection to the garden beyond. Upstairs, the layout was also reworked to create a spacious master bedroom, ensuite and dressing room.
The result feels less like a series of alterations and more like the home was always meant to work this way.
Opening up the possibilities
The existing ground floor was divided into separate spaces, limiting both the way the family could use the house and its connection with the garden.
Creating the new layout involved considerable structural changes, including opening up the existing rooms and introducing the steelwork needed to make the new space possible.
The transformation created somewhere the family could cook, eat, relax and spend time together, with the new opening onto the terrace allowing the inside and outside spaces to become naturally connected.
Rather than simply creating one enormous open room, the layout was shaped around how the different areas would work together. The finished space feels generous yet comfortable, with each area having its own purpose while remaining part of the wider room.
A home that works differently
One of the most successful parts of the transformation is the relationship between the house and garden.
With the doors completely opened, the kitchen flows directly onto the covered terrace, creating a wonderful space for everyday family life and entertaining. When closed, the room still retains the warmth and character needed to feel comfortable throughout the year.
Upstairs, the same considered approach continued. Reworking the existing layout allowed a large master bedroom, ensuite and dressing room to be created, bringing together generous proportions with details that feel entirely at home within the character of the property.
The finished home
What makes this project particularly special is that the transformation hasn't taken away the personality of the original home.
Existing character sits comfortably alongside the new spaces, while the changes have completely altered how our clients experience the property day to day.
It is a home that now feels more connected, more sociable and better suited to the way they want to live.
